The Trump Tariff Trade has been routing the markets lately. Volatility is in high gear as the S&P 500 is down 2.68% this year.
In this volatile week, this small cap restaurant stock - The Cheesecake Factory, Inc. (CAKE) - seemed to buck the trend impressively.
CAKE zoomed nearly 8% this week in strong volume breaking above a multi-month consolidation. CAKE's price action this week outpaced
the broader market nicely and investors may want to keep an eye on this. This week's strong close has taken the stock above its 10-week
SMA even as it bounced above its 40-week SMA - apparently in a show of support at the long term line.
CAKE announced this week it is expected to release quarterly earnings on 4/25/2018. Q1 2018 earnings are expected to dip slightly when compared
to the same quarter prior year but despite this the stock has bolted higher which is noteworthy.
There appears to be no other significant news flow in public domain about CAKE from our viewpoint. Are investors anticpating a better earnings
this quarter than what was previously anticipated?
Self-directed investors will want to perform more research on this stock to see how appropriate this is for their own portfolios.
